Aki Kurose Academy emphasizes independent thinking, self-discipline, and personal responsibility. ACADEMICS: We take academics seriously at Aki Kurose. Both traditional and honors courses are offered for students. Courses include Mathematics, Language Arts, Science, and Physical Education. VISUAL ARTS: The visual arts program provides a strong foundation in drawing, design, painting, and pottery. Courses include Drawing, Painting, and Pottery. DIGITAL ARTS: Students pursing this course of study apply the drawing skills they learned in visual arts to creating digital art. Courses include Digital Photography/Image Editing, Beginning Cartooning, Advanced Cartooning, Animation, and Special Projects. PROGRAMMING/GAME DESIGN: Students following this course of study will learn two programming languages, program robots, and create first-and second-generation video games. Courses include Visual Basic.NET , Liberty Basic, pBasic, and Introduction to C++.. MEDIA PRODUCTION: Students produce digital media in all formats: videos, audio, radio broadcasts, web sites, the school paper, and the school yearbook Courses include Internet Radio, Yearbook Production, School Newspaper, Web Design and Digital Music. FOREIGN LANGUAGE: What do they call someone who speaks two languages? Bilingual. What do they call someone who speaks one language? American. Students who are bilingual greatly enhance their employability. Courses include Beginning French, Advanced French, Beginning Spanish, Advanced French, Beginning Chinese, and Advanced Chinese. INDUSTRIAL TECHNOLOGY/MANUFACTURING:Students learn the fundamentals of the manufacturing process. We are especially proud of our laser cutter/engraver. Courses include Wood Shop, Metal Shop, CAD/CAM, and Laser Engraving/Design. MUSIC: Students study music theory, tone production, and literature. Performance opportunities exist during the year for solos, small groups, and ensembles. Courses include BegInning Band, Intermediate Band, Guitar, Choir, and Musical Production. DRAMA: Students learn the fundamentals of acting, serve as stage crew, manage the lights, control the sound system, and direct. (Play writing opportunities are available for advanced projects.)
